Maudie Ruth Chapman Tanner

    Funeral service for Maudie Ruth Chapman Tanner, 100, of Lamesa will be held on Saturday, June 24, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Branon Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Dennis Adams officiating, under the care and direction of Branon Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Dawson County Cemetery. 
    Viewing will begin Saturday, June 24, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. until service time. 
    Ruth Tanner was born to Emmitt Leroy Chapman and Maudie Jane Reed on June 22, 1922. Ruth was the youngest of four girls: Maldie, Ludie Mae, and Lucille. She was born in Collingsworth County, Wellington, Texas. She grew up in Lubbock, Texas. She became a Christian at the age of 9 years old. She left school at an early age to help the family. She worked at Behran Drug Company in Lubbock for 15 years. 
    In 1959 she married Carrell Don Tanner. They had one daughter, Carrellyn Renay in 1961. Ruth and her family lived in Lubbock until 1971 when they moved to L7 Ranch in Martin County, Texas. She worked the farm with her family. She taught Sunday School, V.B.S. and W.M.U. 
    After retirement, Ruth and Carrell moved to Lamesa. In 2016 Carrell passed away and she moved to Hobbs to live with her daughter and son-in-law. She moved to Beehive in Lamesa in 2020. She loved to read, enjoyed singing the old hymns and sewing. Most of all she loved her Lord Jesus.
    Ruth went to be with our heavenly Father on June 13, 2023. 
    She was preceded in death by her father and mother; three sisters, and one nephew. 
    She is survived by her daughter, Carrellyn and (Mark) Steinert; one stepdaughter, Phyllis Martin; and granddaughter Angela Martin; nieces Georgia and (JC) Vanginault and Sally Murray; nephew Billy and (Sue) Small; three great nieces; and three great nephews; plus many great-great nieces and nephews.
    In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made to Klondike Baptist Church or Angels Care Hospice in her name.
    We wish to thank the Lamesa Beehive family and the Angels Hospice for all their loving care of Ruth.
