Norman Porterfield
Norman Leon Porterfield was born on November 8, 1938 in Lamesa, TX and passed away peacefully from this world on March 6, 2023 in Kenner, LA.
He graduated from Lamesa High School, Lamesa, Texas, and enrolled in Texas Tech University for two years before enlisting in the U.S. Army for 3 years. Norman returned to Texas Tech University to complete his degree in Petroleum Engineering after discharge. Upon graduation, he began his career with Getty Oil, where he remained for 17 years. Texaco bought Getty Oil, where Norman retired in 1994.
Norman was an avid reader, bird watcher, collector of model cars, Texaco cars, planes and oil industry related memorabilia. Retta and Norman loved traveling and visited many countries around the world. Norman was a fan of his alma mater, Texas Tech Red Raiders.
In the evenings, you could find the neighbors all gathered in their back yard having happy hour. Norman loved his own version of martini (vodka over ice).
He is preceded in death by his parents, Barcus and Artie Porterfield; and sister, Karen Sue Porterfield.
He leaves behind his wife, Retta LaCour Porterfield of 37 years; brother, Kenneth (Barbara) Porterfield of Lamesa, TX; sister in Law, Margaret Wagner of Kenner, LA; three daughters, Carrolyn (Ricky) Benoit, Jennings, LA, Christina Williams of Baton Rouge, LA, Daphne Rhodes of Oklahoma; grandchildren, Richard, Aray and Megan Benoit, Katherine (Travis) Bozeman of Baton Rouge, LA and Autumn Garrett, Chloe Rhodes; great grandchildren, Camber Pickett, William and Benjamin Bozeman.
A memorial reception will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the charity of your choice in Norman’s name. The family is thankful for the loving care he received from Hospice Specialists of Louisiana and his caregivers from NOLA Home Care.
