After Sands won the state basketball title a year ago and she was named the tournament’s MVP in Class 1A, Elysa Martinez hoped to get another shot at state this season. As it turned out Martinez took her last shot for the Mustangs in the regional quarterfinals where Sands fell to Whiteface, 41-38.But Martinez’s playing days aren’t over, as she signed Wednesday to play for Howard College’s Hawk Queens.Sands Coach Ben Connell is excited about Martinez getting this opportunity.“I’ve been telling Elysa she’s going to make it because she not only loves the game but she’s also a good, hard worker,”
