Dawson County is among 92 counties in Texas that have been declared primary natural disaster areas by the U.S. Department of Agriculture as a result of excessive heat from May 1 through Sept. 30 of last year.The secretarial disaster designation allows the USDA’s Farm Service Agency to extend much-needed emergency credit through emergency loans to producers recovering from natural disasters.Emergency loans can be used to meet various recovery needs including the replacement of essential items such as equipment or livestock, reorganization of a farming operation or the refinance of certain debts.
