Maria Luna

    A memorial service for Maria Luna, 68, of Lubbock, Texas, was held Wednesday, December 15, 2022, with Kendall Meek officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Branon Funeral Home.
    Maria Luna was born February 10, 1954, in Poteet, TX and passed away December 10, 2022. 
    She graduated from South Plains College and went on to have a career with the Texas Department of Corrections and the Lubbock Sheriff’s Department. Maria was the heart of her family and had a hand in raising not only her own children, but her grandchildren and every member of her family. 
    She loved with her whole heart, made everyone laugh around her, and was incredibly giving no matter if she had a lot or a little. She wanted everyone to be taken care of, no matter if they were related or not. Multiple generations of the family were shaped by who she was.
    Maria was preceded in death by daughter, Susan Gaitan-Garcia; mother, Manuela Luna; father, Monico Luna; sisters, Janie Diaz and Carolina Guerrero; and brothers, Richard Luna, Monico Luna, Jr. and Jose O. Luna.
    She is survived by her sons, Robert Gaitan and wife, Lorina of Lamesa and Gregory Gaitan and fiancé, Jessica Casarez of Lubbock; sisters, Sally and husband, Daniel Bermudez of Three Rivers, and Gracie Guerrero of Pleasanton; brothers, Jose Luna of Palestine and Jessie Luna of San Antonio; grandchildren, Amanda Alexander, Jamie Garcia, Samantha Gaitan, Brittany Garcia, Isaac Garcia, Timothy Garcia, Nicholas Gaitan, Hailey Gaitan, Lori Cardona,, Savannah Casarez and Raul Bryan; and great grandchildren, Eli Garcia, Miles Garcia, Zanoah Garcia, Aiden Benavidez, Tabitha Alexander and Daphne Alexander.
