Dale Schwartz

    Graveside service for Edward Dale Schwartz, 89, of Plainview, formerly of Lamesa, will be held Monday, July 25, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at Dawson County Cemetery. 
    Visitation will be held Sunday, July 24, 2022 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Branon Funeral Home.
    Dale passed away Thursday, July 21, 2022, in Midland with his son at his bedside.
    He was born November 5, 1932, in May, Oklahoma to Harry Charles and Geneva Mabel (White) Schwartz. He married Emma Lee Jane Wilson on May 29, 1959 in Lamesa, Tx. 
    He picked his last sack of cotton, put it on the scales and headed to the Lamesa Post Office to enlist, joining the United States Army on January 30, 1951.  He completed basic training in Ft. Smith, Ark. then was shipped to the front lines in Korea with the 1st Calvary where he spent most of the next twenty-two months. He was then shipped to Kyoto, Japan where he was stationed until May of 1953 and then shipped on to Camp Polk in Louisiana. Dale was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant on January 29, 1954, one day shy of 3 years. Dale was awarded several service medals: the Army of Occupation Medal with Japan, the National Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with four bronze stars, the Combat Infantryman Badge, 1st award and the United Nations Service Medal, including the Purple Heart. 
    Dale worked for Goodyear for over twenty years serving as service manager, receiving several awards for sales and service. Before that he had worked at a service station, worked as a plumber and in construction. He was very proud to have served as a volunteer fireman for 13 years in Lamesa.
    Dale is survived by his daughter, Emma Daleyn Schwartz of Plainview, and son, Edward “Eddie” Schwartz and wife Stacy of Midland, and her parents, David Waldrop, and wife Doris Waldrop of Midland; brother, Walter Riley Schwartz, and wife Sandra of Burnet; and several nieces and nephews.
    Dale was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Emma Lee Jane Wilson Schwartz; infant son, James Michael Schwartz, and brother, Charles Harry Schwartz.
    Arrangements are under the direction of Branon Funeral Home.
