The 2021 cotton crop will officially go down in the books as the fourth-largest ever produced in Dawson County.The U.S. Department of Agriculture recently released upland cotton production figures which show 355,400 bales were produced here last year.That total is up from only 82,000 bales the previous year.The 2021 crop benefitted from a variety of factors, including timely rains, heat at just the right time, improvements in plant genetics, and even weed control, according to Gary Roschetzky, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Agent - Agriculture in Dawson County.That 355,400-bale total has been exceeded here only three times, all of which were ...
