To reduce an estimated $900,000 deficit in next year’s budget, Lamesa school officials are looking at the possibility of reducing staff by not replacing employees who leave or retire.“We’re not cutting staff, but when people leave; we’re absorbing them,” said LISD Superintendent Jim Knight. “We’re not going to get rid of anybody,”The district employs over 300 staff members.There are about five current staff retiring at the end of the school year.
