Lamesa City Council members are hedging their bets in calling for a special election to replace a sitting council member after the May 7 mayoral race.Council members are meeting at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday in city hall at 601 S. 1st Street.One of the main items on the agenda is ordering a special election to fill the District 6 seat.District 6’s current officeholder, Doug Morris, is the only candidate seeking the mayor’s seat.Candidates have until Feb. 18 to file for a spot on the ballot.If no one files in the next five days, Morris could automatically win the job.
