ANDREWS – The city erected half a dozen signs at Lakeside Park this week to caution residents about a possible blue-green algae bloom in the city lake.
Specifically, the signs urged residents to keep pets and children away from the lake water. Blue-green algae impacted water can be toxic to dogs if ingested. Humans can also be susceptible to skin rash if contact is made or illness if water is ingested.
Recent suspicions of a blue-green algae bloom surfaced with the observation of numerous dead fish on the lake’s north shore, according to Andrews Police Chief Ronny McCarver.
