Two buildings across the street from the courthouse on the north side of the downtown square are now slated for demolition after action Tuesday by the Lamesa City Council.
Following public hearings on the condition of the structures, council mem adjoining buildings – at 418 N. 1st Street and 420 N. 1st Street – to be so dilapidated that they constitute a public nuisance.
They voted 6-0 to order demolition of both buildings.
During the public hearings, city Inspector Brian Beck said the roof is “virtually nonexistent” in the building at 420 N. 1st, which was formerly the housed a business called Tejano’s.
