E.L. 'Gene' Hendon

    Funeral service for E.L. “Gene” Hendon, 92, of Lamesa will be held Saturday, August 14, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at First Methodist Church with Kendall Meek officiating. Interment will follow to Dawson County Cemetery. 
    Arrangements are under the care of Branon Funeral Home. 
    Visitation will be held Friday, August 13, 2021 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Branon Funeral Home.
    Gene passed away on Wednesday, August 11, 2021 in Tahoka, Texas.  
    He was born October 10, 1928 in Knox City, Texas to William Thomas and Iris Lee (Winn) Hendon. He married Norma Jean Armbruster September 12, 1949 in Lovington, New Mexico.  They were married for 71 years.
    Gene was a passionate farmer all his life. He served on the Welch School Board for a few years and announced the play-by-play at football games.  He served on the Texas Soil and Water Conservation Board for 47 years and as a county commissioner for 8 years. Gene loved collecting cars and was a member of the Big Spring Antique Car Club.  He was very loved and will be missed.
    Gene is survived by his wife, Norma Jean Hendon of Lamesa; daughter, Anna Bearden of Brownfield; son, Ronnie Hendon and wife, Sharon of Welch; sister, Francis Burkett of Brownfield; three grandchildren, Michael Bearden and wife, Mary, Kristi Culp and husband, Randy, and Brent Hendon and wife, Bralie; seven great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren. 
    He is preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Birdie Parker, Lynn Hendon, Louise Barrington, Tobe Hendon, Pete Hendon and Jack Hendon.
