SNYDER – Scurry County’s commissioners’ court regretfully accepted former Pct. 2 Commissioner Craig Merritt’s resignation during Tuesday’s meeting. According to Merritt’s brief resignation letter, the resignation took effect July 30. “Thank you Scurry County for the privilege to be a county commissioner,” he wrote. Scurry County Judge Dan Hicks said he will name a replacement, but has not yet established a timeline for doing so. “I was saddened by the resignation of my friend, Commissioner of Pct. 2 Craig Merritt,” Hicks read from a statement. “We are four months away from the time when people can sign up to run for Pct. 2 commissioner.
