Dawson County apparently won’t be seeing any budget relief this year in the cost of keeping local prisoners locked up while awaiting trial.
Limited to housing only about 40 prisoners at a time in the local jail, Dawson County sends its overflow population of prisoners to four other jails in surrounding counties.
Those counties, however, are increasing the amount they are charging for housing Dawson County inmates.
On Tuesday the Dawson County Commissioners Court approved a new contract for housing inmates in the Terry County Jail. The rate for that service went up from $32 per day per inmate to $43.
