When the 2021-2022 school year begins Aug. 12, Lamesa students attending sixth and seventh grades will see themselves in new accommodations.
Lamesa Middle School sustained damage from the June 26 storm. The roof leaked, hallways and classrooms were flooded, and ceiling tiles were drenched in rainwater.
It will be a long while before the building’s roof and some of its classroom spaces will reopen for students.
“The problem is we have to get a settlement on the roof,” Superintendent Jim Knight said during the Lamesa school board’s regular meeting Thursday evening. “It’s going to be costly.”
