SNYDER – A magnitude 3.4 earthquake was recorded east of Snyder early Thursday morning.
According to information from the United State Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake hit about 12:30 a.m. Thursday. The epicenter was 11 kilometers - approximately 6.82 miles northeast of Hermleigh and 13.3 miles east of Snyder at a depth of 6.1 kilometers.
Thursday’s earthquake was near where a magnitude 2.5 earthquake struck in April. That temblor occurred approximately six miles north-northeast of Hermleigh. The epicenter was about two miles deep, according to the USGS.
The highest magnitude quake in recent history was a 4.3 magnitude quake on Sept. 11, 2011.
