Hampered somewhat by continued rainfall this past weekend, cleanup and recovery work continues in the wake of the severe storm that hit Lamesa June 26.
Members of the Dawson County Commissioners Court during a special meeting Monday extended indefinitely the local disaster declaration which had been issued a week earlier by County Judge Foy O’Brien.
O’Brien said extension of the declaration by the commissioners court was a necessary step in Dawson County’s continued efforts to get state and federal assistance.
“Until you declare a local disaster you can’t proceed any further,” O’Brien told members of the commissioners court about the efforts for assistance.
