A blown-out door at the city’s animal shelter and a damaged kennel resulted in rescuers having to corral 10-15 older shelter puppies and search for eight foster puppies after the June 26 storm that hit Lamesa.
The five-week-old puppies were being fostered in a kennel in a backyard. The storm’s high winds toppled the kennel and damaged its enclosed top.
“It tore up my back yard. I had 15 dogs at my house,” Alisha Land, city animal control officer. “It was a crazy weekend.”
