After serving the public for almost 44 years in the county tax assessor-collector’s office, Sylvia Ortiz has decided it is time to retire.
Her last day as the Dawson County tax assessor-collector will be this coming Wednesday, at the end of the month.
“You know that old saying that you’ll know its time to retire when its time? Well, that fits me now. It’s time,” Ortiz said Friday.
She thought it would be a sad time when she decided to actually take that step, but she admitted Thursday that is not the case.
“I’m very excited,” she said.
