The Lamesa Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting Fourth of July festivities a day earlier on July 3 at Forrest Park as a way to honor America’s birthday along with dedicating the night’s fireworks display to a fallen deputy.
Eden County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Samuel Leonard, 26, who grew up here and worked for the Dawson County Sheriff’s Department, had intended to light the evening’s fireworks show. He trained with his brother Zach and father Randy last year in the proper handling of fireworks in preparation for the upcoming Independence Day show.
