It looks like oil drilling activity in Dawson County is rapidly picking up steam. Drilling permits for eight new wells here have been issued in the past two months by the Texas Railroad Commission. Seven of those are for horizontal drilling operations. The majority of the new wells will be located in the southwestern part of the county, with four clustered around the Friendship community near the intersection of FM 829 and FM 2051.
