It is any graffiti artist’s dream: three walls, all the spray paint and house paint they need, and sitting right across from the law enforcement center without concerns of getting arrested for vandalism.
All that painting is part of the graduation tradition for Lamesa High School’s seniors. The canvas, the former Higginbotham hardware building, gets new layers of paint each year right before the seniors get their diplomas.
Their names and painted pictures will remain on the wall for a year. Then it will be the Class of 2022’s turn to paint their masterpieces on the once red brick.
