Lamesa school board members held a special meeting Tuesday for three reasons: to canvass the votes from the May 1 election, administer the oath of office for two incumbents and a newcomer, and appoint new officeholders.
After canvassing the votes, board members spent two hours in executive session. After returning they voted to keep Rebecca Gonzales as board president. They chose Kelli Merritt as vice-president and Ernest Ogeda as board secretary.
The school board can appoint officeholders any time during the year, but they are obligated to make those appointments after a board election, said LISD Superintendent Jim Knight.
