Wayne W. Wiggins
Wayne W. Wiggins, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away at AltaVita Memory Care Centre on April 29, 2021 in Longmont, CO. He was born on October 25, 1936 in Martin County, Texas to the late Loyd and Rachel (Phelan) Wiggins.
Wayne grew up on a cotton farm and graduated from Flower Grove High School. After graduation, Wayne was briefly married and had a daughter, Lea. He then served in the U.S. Army, including two tours in Vietnam, achieving the rank of Captain. It was during this time, his prayers were answered and he married Carolyn McLarry on July 8, 1970 in Hawaii while on R&R from war service.
Wayne’s military service took them to adventurous places such as Killeen, TX where son, Mark, was born, Livorno, Italy, where son, Paul, was born, and Sparta, WI where he retired in 1984. Wayne began a second career with the U.S. Postal Service in La Crosse, WI and retired a second time in 2000.
In 2008, Wayne and Carolyn moved to Colorado to spend more time with their grandchildren. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
Serving others was one of the things Wayne enjoyed doing the most. He served through his church, Habitat for Humanity, and Southern Baptist Disaster Relief. Wayne was also an avid gardener, enjoying raising vegetables and flowers alike. Fishing, especially at the family lake house in East TX, and photography were much-enjoyed pastimes.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Carolyn (McLarry) Wiggins; sons Mark (Wendy) Wiggins of St. Louis Park, MN, and Paul (Debbie) Wiggins and their children, Emily and Brian, of Longmont CO; daughter, Lea Smith of Lamesa, TX; sister, Janice Culp of Lamesa, TX; sister-in-law, Janice Wiggins of Dallas, TX; brothers, Pat (Becky) Wiggins of New Braunfels, TX and Bob (Debbie) Wiggins of Midland, TX; sister-in law, Ann (Clay) Krueger of Center, TX; and 9 nieces and nephews.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Alma Wiggins; brother, Mike Wiggins; brother-in law, Ronnie Culp; son-in-law, Danny Smith; and in-laws Finley and Margaret McLarry.
Visitation will take place Thursday, May 6, 2021 from 5:00pm - 7:00pm at Howe Mortuary, 439 Coffman Street in Longmont, as well as 9:00am - 9:30am on Friday, May 7, 2021 at Calvary Church, 2101 Gay St in Longmont. The funeral service will take place Friday, May 7, 2021 at 9:30am at Calvary Church, 2101 Gay St in Longmont. A private burial will take place at the Longmont Mountain View Cemetery.
