School districts throughout Dawson County have implemented policies making facial masks optional. Districts began making masks a personal choice after Texas Governor Greg Abbott discontinued a yearlong state-wide rule of the wearing of masks when in public or when six-feet social distancing was not possible.
School districts had required students over the age of 10, along with teachers and staff, to wear masks or face coverings while on campus before the governor disbanded the restriction a month ago.
