Three days after Isaac Elias Rosales celebrated his third birthday last week, he was in surgery to repair a hole in his heart.
The youngster was supposed to get the surgery in mid-March, but that appointment was put off until later.
The toddler was born with an atrial septal defect. The condition means a hole in the wall between the upper chambers of his heart failed to close during his development in the womb.
The defect is a common one among newborns. Sometimes the condition repairs itself as a baby matures. Sometimes it doesn’t.
