Dawson County currently is facing a “bad mix” of conditions which create a high danger of wildfires, according to Lamesa Fire Chief Larry Duyck.
That mix includes drough conditions, high winds on almost a daily basis, and very low humidity.
“It’s a vital concern for West Texas,” Duyck said Tuesday during his regular fire threat report to the Dawson County Commissioners Court.
Dawson County now has a rating of 633 – on a scale of 0-800 – from the Keetch-Byram Drought Index.
That index is used to help various agencies determine the potential for wildfires.
