While having a substantial fund balance to fall back on in an emergency is nice, Lamesa school officials are seeing a need to begin reducing theirs.
Liz Oaks, the Lamesa school district’s chief financial officer, discussed the fund balance during the school board’s regular meeting Thursday evening.
The school district currently has a fund balance of about $24 million.
Oaks said the Texas Education Agency recommends schools have enough money in their fund balance to cover operating expenses for about three months.
