Wanda Alexander Dyer
Wanda LaNelle Alexander Dyer of Ackerly, Texas, went to be with her Lord on March 7, 2021.
She will lie in state Tuesday, March 9, 2021 from 8:30 am until 9:00 pm at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. Graveside service for Wanda will be Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at 2:00 PM at the Ackerly Cemetery. Officiating the service will be Dr. Stan Belvins, her pastor at First Baptist Church of Ackerly.
Wanda was the eighth child and seventh daughter born to Henry and Nellie Alexander of Lamesa, Texas, on November 26, 1927. She grew up there and graduated from Lamesa High School in 1945. After high school, Wanda attended and graduated from Draughs Business College in Lubbock, Texas.
Wanda worked at Hobbs Army Air Field in New Mexico until its closing in 1947. Subsequently, Wanda went to work for Skelly Oil in New Mexico until July 1951, then moved to Midland, Texas, to work for Ashland Oil and Refining.
While in Midland, Wanda became reacquainted with the man who would be the love of her life, M.E. Dyer, Jr., when he and a friend made a trip to Midland. After seeing her again, M.E. drove to Midland every Saturday to see Wanda.
Wanda and M.E. were married on November 26, 1953, in Hobbs New Mexico, in the home of her sister and brother-in-law, LaNova and Corbie Williams. After their marriage, they moved to Ackerly, Texas, where they began their lives and family together on the farm.
Throughout her life, Wanda was selflessly devoted to her family as a wife and mother. She was a loving and patient woman who was steadfast and strong in her faith as a Christian. Wanda was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Ackerly. She held many positions with the church through the years as a G.A. Counselor, Sunday School Secretary, assistant treasurer, and a member of the Gleaners Sunday School Class.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, M.E. Dyer, Jr., her parents Henry and Nellie Alexander, two brothers, and six sisters.
She is survived by a son Buddy Dyer, of Ackerly; a daughter Marsha Gleason and husband H.T. of Eula, Texas; two granddaughters; Callie Southall and husband Spence of Eula, and Marleigh Gleason of Baird; and two great granddaughters Chayse and Scotti Kate Southall. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and their families who she loved dearly.
Pallbearers are Mike Coleman, Mark Kennemer, Steve Bodine, Quinn Alexander, C.L. Williams, and Spence Southall. Honorary Pallbearers are Derrell Bearden, David Bearden, Cheno Navarrette, Rick Villarreal, Corbie Navarrette, Buddy Navarrette, Cheno Thomas Navarrette, and A.J. Navarrette.
