Graveside service for Leon Wilson, 86, of Lamesa will be held Monday, March 8, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Dawson County Cemetery with Pastor Jim Medley officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of Branon Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held Sunday, March 7, 2021 from 3:00-6:00 p.m. at Branon Funeral Home.
Leon passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2021 in Houston.
He was born May 6, 1934 in Lamesa to Ernest Felix and Edna (Bohanon) Wilson. He attended Union School from 1st to 12th grade. He married Shirley Fields June 7, 1953. They were married for 62 years. After they married, they moved back to Union Community.
Leon loved farming; he was a farmer his entire life from age 14 to age 71. He has lived in the same house for 86 years, except he briefly lived down the road at Grandpa Wilson’s house. He was an agricultural pilot. He also loved flying his tri pacer airplane, taking friends and family flying, and sometimes flew under telephone poles.
He loved traveling to Ouray, Colorado in their motor home to jeep Black Bear Mountain. His favorite trips were to Branson, Missouri, which he visited 34 times. His favorite hobbies were fishing, water skiing with friends and family at Falcon Lake, Lake Thomas and Brownwood Lake. He loved classic country music, gospel music and music shows. He traveled three times to the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, TN. He also traveled to Disneyland in California, Disney World in Florida, Padre Island and Key West.
He was a member at Friendship Baptist Church for 41 years, served as treasurer for 21 years. He was an R.A. and training union teacher and was an ordained deacon. He then joined First Baptist Church from 1992 to present.
Leon is survived by his children, Monte Wilson and wife, Darragh of Brownfield, Dianna Meador and husband, Ronnie of Lamesa, and Wade Wilson and wife, Brenda of Lamesa; brothers, Donnie Wilson and Jackie Wilson; 8 grandchildren; Brent Wilson, Chad Wilson, Shanda Wilson Rouse, Tanji Meador Rinker, Mandee Meador Perkins, Julee Meador Gale, Jessica Wilson Howe and Jennifer Wilson Mounce; and 16 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and wife.
