A candy store and a bakery, both catering to the Valentine’s Day buyer looking for sweets for their sweethearts, are named after a wife and mother.
Namesakes seem to fall in line with Valentine’s Day. The day is actually named after the martyred patron saint of epilepsy and plagues who ignored a third century Roman emperor’s ban against performing Christian weddings. Valentine is also the patron saint of betrothed couples and happy marriages. The day was also long thought to be the day when birds chose their mates.
