Viola Cortez

    Catholic graveside funeral services for Viola O. Cortez, age 81, of Lamesa , TX. will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 15, 2021 at the Dawson County Cemetery with Father Chacko Thadathil officiating. 
    Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Gonzales Funeral Home. Due to the Covid-19 area situation, and for the safety of the family and our community, face mask, and social distancing is required at the funeral home and cemetery.
    Viewing and visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 13, 2021, and Sunday, February 14, 2021, with a Sunday evening Rosary prayer service starting at 7:00 p.m. at Gonzales Funeral Home Chapel. 
    Viola passed away on Thursday, February 11, 2021 in Lamesa, TX. 
    She was born on February 9, 1940 in Bloomington, TX.
    Viola was preceded in death by her parents, Guadalupe Cortez, Sr., and Celia Cortez; her siblings, Olivia Rivera, Emma Diaz, Lydia Cortez, Lupe Cortez, Elida Guicoza, Dalia Gonzales, Arturo Cortez, Jessie Cortez, Roberto Cortez, Manuel Cortez, Alfredo Cortez, Romiro Cortez.
    Viola was a very kindhearted and gentle soul. She loved to spend her time with her plants, flowers, sewing, and jewelry-making. She enjoyed family gatherings, and caring for her nieces, and nephews as if they were her own. Viola was a devout Catholic and loved her Lady of Guadalupe. She was also a member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church.
    Viola is survived by her family, her two brothers, Lee Cortez, Sr. and sister-in-law, Elvia Cortez of Lamesa, TX., Rudy Cortez of Lamesa, TX.; her sister, Carolina Cortez of Lamesa, TX.; her brother-in-law, Emiliano Gonzales, Sr. of Lamesa, TX.; numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
