Right before the Fourth of July, there are usually about six places where Lamesa residents can buy fireworks outside the city limits. The number of businesses selling the pyrotechnics before New Year’s Day drops to only two. Among them are Ray Whitley and his business partner Jerry Walton, who set up their J&R Fireworks: Home of the $10 Bag stand on N. Lynn Ave. Another is Mr. W. Fireworks just down the street inside a metal building, filled with an array of cannons, blasters and noise makers.
