The Lamesa Independent School District board has a new president. During their regular meeting Thursday evening board members selected Rebecca Gonzales as the new president and Melissa Cazares as vice president. The action came after former board president Kelli Merritt and newcomer board member Cam Wade were sworn into office. Merritt won her reelection bid in the Nov. 3 race. Wade also won one of the two at-large seats. He replaces Don Bethel, who did not seek another term. Wade captured 567 votes while Merritt collected 445. They defeated Jay DeFee, who tallied 351 votes, and La Trista Brown, who received 334. ...
