After more than 30 minutes of friendly discussion members of the Lamesa Cit Council voted preliminarily Tuesday evening to give local property owners a slight break on the tax rate this year.
The council voted 5-2 to set the proposed tax rate at 82.4607 cents per $100 worth of property value, which is one cent lower than last year’s rate.
Advocates of the reduction, which will mean about $25,000 less revenue for the city, said they realize the financial impact that COVID-19 is having on local residents and want to make at least some effort to help them.
