Lamesa City Council members opted Tuesday to delay action on a rezoning decision after a council member voiced strong opposition to the proposal.
Council member Luciano Reyes said allowing a piece of property at N.E. 3rd Street and Akron to be changed from residential to industrial zoning would create a safety problem in that area.
Paul Hernandez had sought the zoning change to allow him to put a mechanic shop and truck stop on property located in the 400 block of Akron Ave., between N.E. 3rd Street and the Stripes convenience store on the north end of that block.
