Contrary to ominous rumors that had been ramping up over the past few days, a “Peace & Love, Peace and Power Rally” held on the courthouse square Monday afternoon turned out to be the peaceful and prayerful event planned by local organizers.
Some 70-80 local residents attended the rally, which was designed as a call for racial justice and an end to police brutality across the nation.
“We’re standing up for what’s right,” said Lamesa resident Bryant Edwards, who organized the rally along with his wife, Denitrice Jenkins.
