With the addition of one more case announced Monday afternoon, Dawson County officially has had 14 confirmed cases of the COVID-19 virus.
Seven of those cases remain active, Mayor Josh Stevens said.
However, only four of those active cases involve general residents of Lamesa. The other three involve inmates diagnosed while at the Preston E. Smith state prison unit.
Inmates here who are diagnosed with COVID-19 reportedly are being transferred to the Montford Unit in Lubbock, which includes the prison system’s Western Regional Medical Facility.
The latest case reported here Monday was an individual over 20 years of age, according to Stevens.
