Art Bizzell

    It is with great sadness that the family of Arthur Edward Bizzell announces his passing on December 16, 2019 at the age of 89 years. 
    Art was born on September 23, 1930 to John Roy and Mildred Bizzell in Lamesa, Texas.  After graduation from Lamesa High School and a stint in the Army, Art graduated from Texas Tech in 1955.  
    While at Tech he met the love of his life, Mary Catherine Cole, whom he was devoted to for 64 years.  He and Mary settled in Lamesa where he had a CPA practice for more than 30 years.  He was active in the community and served as mayor for several years, along with involvement in the Lions Club and Chamber of Commerce. 
    One of the highlights of his life was retiring to a house they built on Lake LBJ in Kingsland, TX  where he enjoyed boating, fishing, and family gatherings. He loved watching his Texas Tech Red Raiders play football. He continued to be involved in the community and also served as a CASA volunteer.
    Art was a man of great patience, faith and integrity with a subtle sense of humor.  Although never one to seek the spotlight, his advice and judgement was sought by many and valued by those who benefited from it.  He was very generous and always willing to lend a hand to someone less fortunate or who had hit a rough spot.  He lived his life by his motto “anything worth doing is worth doing right”.  He will be missed.
    Art was preceded in death by his parents, his brother JR Bizzell and his beloved son, Michael.  
    He is survived by his sisters Mary Lou Osburn and Betty Sue Brock, his daughter Cathy and her husband Steve Green of Houston, his son Patrick of Bryan, his daughter Christy and Suzanne Hill of Houston. He has four grand children in the Houston area: Amber Fraley, Autumn Sanders, Jeff Green and Tyler Green, and six great grandchildren: Jace, Aric, Allie and Jensen Fraley and Bishop and Bizzell (Bizzy) Sanders.
    There will be a family graveside service at a later date.
