Scott Pounds had just began delving into the operation of a business he purchased in Lamesa nearly three years ago when a physical ailment he knew at some point would materialize reared its ugly head.
Pounds’ kidneys began to fail.
Kidney disease runs in his family and he had shown markers for Alport Syndrome—which is passed down hereditarily from the mother’s side—when he was 11.
From there, his condition steadily declined, he said.
Pounds was fine physically into his mid-30s, but kidney failure began soon after he started operation of Margie’s Flowers and Gift Shop at 502 N. 4th St.
