Lamesa’s fire hydrants are getting a new look – and something extra in the process.
Instead of traditional red, the hydrants are being painted a bright silver that makes them more readily visible.
The colors began changing about a month ago as the fire department started conducting its routine maintenance and testing of the hydrants, according to Lamesa Fire Chief Larry Duyck.
Firefighters began the project on the north side of town and gradually are working their way to the south. Currently the work has reached the area of N. 10th St.
