Static electricity may be to blame for an explosion at an oilfield facility south of Lamesa Thursday night that sent one man scrambling for his life and rattled homes more than four miles away.
No one was injured, however, as flames destroyed a saltwater disposal facility on the east side of Highway 137 about 8-9 miles south of Lamesa.
Kerri Brock said the initial explosion at the site about 10:20 p.m. was so forceful that she and her husband, veterinarian Bo Brock, thought a truck or had hit their house.
The Brocks live more than a half-mile east of the disposal site.
