Confusion about the difference between a lockout and a lockdown was addressed by Lamesa school administrators during Tuesday’s Lamesa school board meeting.
That discussion was part of a presentation about the school system’s emergency operations and standard response protocol.
Some of the confusion may be because the lockout is a relatively new procedure and because lockout and lockdown sound very similar, said Chris Riggins, assistant superintendent of human resources.
A lockout, he said, is a relatively simply procedure that school officials may use as a precautionary measure while assessing a situation.
