Every Thursday evening an ever-varying group of volunteers gathers in the basement at the Lamesa Middle School Cafeteria.
They spend their time assembling packages of individual food items ranging from tins of vienna sausage, plastic containers of pudding, and small packs of crackers.
The following day those packages are quietly slipped into the backpacks of 100 children at South Elementary and another 100 children at North Elementary.
Supported by donations of time, food and money, the effort ensures those children don’t go hungry during the weekend.
