Texas Governor Greg Abbott has proclaimed Saturday, Sept. 14, as Quanah Parker Day.
The event will be celebrated across Texas and highlighted in the communities in the Texas Plains Trail Region which Lamesa is located in.
The story and legend of the famed Comanche chief lives on through the metal arrow sculptures in the 52 counties of the historical region.
The arrow sculpture in Lamesa is located on North Lynn Avenue and was placed there on May 9, 2012.
It is one of the sculptures created by the late sculpturwelder Charles A. Smith of New Home.
