Lamesa High School graduate Natalia Castro soon will be heading to college with assistance from a $2,000 local scholarship. Castro, who ranked third academically in the LHS graduating class of 2019, is this year’s recipient of the Lamesa Kiwanis Club Walter Buckel Scholarship. The daughter of Mireya and David Castro, Natalia will be pursuing a degree in chemical engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. Originally called the Walter and Rubye Buckel Scholarship, the award was established in 1999 by friends and associates of Walter Buckel, longtime publisher of the Lamesa Press Reporter.
