An estimated $35,000-$40,000 in prize money will be on the line when ropers and riders from across a wide region converge in Lamesa over the next few days.
They will be arriving to compete in the 70th edition of the annual Lamesa Rodeo, which has been called “West Texas’ Richest Rodeo.”
Rodeo performances are scheduled to start at 8 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the Lamesa rodeo arena on S. Houston Ave.
“We’ve added $12,500 to our pot this year so we’re basically looking at giving out $35,000 to $40,000 in prize money,” Lamesa Rodeo Association President Cody King said.
