Concern that any new highway project almost certainly will take traffic around rather than through Lamesa, directors of the Lamesa Area Chamber of Commerce were hesitant on Monday to support a proposed extension of Interstate 27 from Lubbock to Laredo.
But, while concerned about the short-term impact of a bypass on the community, board members said they see long-term benefits of being located along what could become a major thoroughfare across West Texas.
