Virgil L. Page

    Funeral services for Virgil L. Page, 93, will be held at Branon Funeral Home Chapel in Lamesa, Texas on Sunday, March 10, 2019, at 2:00 p.m., with Pastor Dave Havir officiating. 
    Interment will follow at Dawson County Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Branon Funeral Home. 
    Mr. Page passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2019 in Tyler, Texas. 
    Virgil Page, son of O.M. and Ella Gieger Page, was born in Lamesa, Texas on June 11, 1925. He grew up in the Klondike community and graduated from Klondike High School in 1943. 
    Mr. Page was a veteran of the United States Army. After serving his country, he returned home to Lamesa to marry Opal A. Page in January of 1950. They shared 69 wonderful years together as husband and wife. 
    Virgil’s passion was farming. With his wife, he farmed in Lamesa for over 60 years before he retired at the age of 87, though he continued to manage his farms until the age of 92. He once said he was a lucky man to have been able to do what he loved since he was seven years old, at which age he began working, dragging a cotton sack down rows in a field, picking cotton by hand. 
    Mr. Page was a devoted Christian who loved God and enjoyed reading his Bible regularly. His love for his family, his country, Lamesa, and his farms was evident to all who knew him. 
    Virgil Page was preceded in death by his parents; his three sisters; and his three brothers. 
    He is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Opal; his daughters, Pamela Havir (Dave), and Carolyn Ellefson; his grandchildren, David Havir III (Diana), Jonathan Havir (Traci), Damien Sanchez (Michelle), April Sandoval (Joshua), Candice Owen (Matthew), and twins Cheyenne and Courtney Sanchez; and his great-grandchildren, Danae, Alexander, Calvin, Noelle, Gabriella, Owen, Emmanuel, Rafael, Michael, Elijah, Hope, Russel, Rainan, and Kieran. 
    Virgil will be remembered by his friends and family as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who was both a gentle and a strong man, a man of conviction. He had an entertaining, dry sense of humor that kept everyone laughing. He loved to help people, including various strangers stranded with car trouble and his “adopted grandchildren.” To know him was to love him.
