Over $60,000 in seized money awarded to law enforcement
SEMINOLE – Under Texas laws, civil asset forfeiture is a tool that law enforcement agencies can use to seize property they believe has been used or could be used in the event of a criminal act.
Some $60,420 seized during a 2017 traffic stop by deputies with the Gaines County Sheriff’s Office recently cleared through the civil court process in the 106th Judicial District, resulting in the awarding of over $42,000 of the funds to the GCSO.
The remaining portion of the money, under Texas laws, was awarded to the 106th District Attorney’s Office.
